RAMALLAH—In a statement issued through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 7, 2023, Palestine underscored the dire situation in the region, attributing the escalation to the continued Israeli occupation and the lack of political resolution for the Palestinian people. The statement elucidated that the ongoing blockage of the political horizon and the failure to recognize the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination have fueled the current crisis.
Palestine criticized daily provocations and attacks, including settlers’ and occupation forces’ acts of terrorism, alongside raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and other holy sites. These actions, it emphasized, derail any prospects for peace and stability in the region.
The statement urged an end to the Israeli occupation, advocating for the recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders. It stressed that only through such a path could the region hope to attain security, stability, and peace.
Highlighting the disregard shown by Israel towards previously signed agreements and international resolutions, Palestine lamented the stagnation of the peace process. The statement pointed out that the continuous injustice and oppression faced by the Palestinian people under occupation have created an explosive situation threatening peace and security in the region.
Palestine called for justice, freedom, and independence for its people, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive resolution that includes the return of refugees and adherence to international legitimacy resolutions. It underscored that a lasting peace could only be achieved through a just and fair solution to the Palestinian cause, urging the international community to take decisive steps towards resolving the long-standing conflict and ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people.
