DUBAI (The Thursday Times) — The United Arab Emirates has illuminated its iconic landmarks with the campaign slogan ‘UAE Stands with Lebanon,’ accompanied by the Lebanese flag and map. This symbolic gesture reflects the UAE’s empathy and support during Lebanon’s challenging time, highlighting a deep sense of regional fraternity.
The UAE’s most famous structures, including Burj Khalifa, Mubadala Tower, and the ADNOC Building, are part of this public demonstration of unity. These illuminated landmarks serve as a visual reminder of the UAE’s unwavering commitment to Lebanon, resonating with both local citizens and the international community. The display captures the essence of shared values and the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
A leadership-driven humanitarian campaign
The campaign is not only symbolic but also backed by tangible humanitarian aid. The initiative was launched following directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, plays a pivotal role in overseeing the campaign, while Sheikh Theyab Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, and Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, supervises its execution.
This effort signifies the UAE’s commitment to offering more than words, with actionable support that extends beyond its borders. The campaign commenced on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and will continue until Monday, October 21, 2024.
Widespread collection efforts
To further contribute to Lebanon’s needs, the UAE has launched large-scale relief collection drives. Dubai’s Exhibition Centre in Expo City and Abu Dhabi Ports Cruise Terminal have already gathered over 20,000 boxes of relief supplies, including food parcels and essential shelter materials. These donations are destined to provide immediate support to the people of Lebanon, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian causes.
As part of the ongoing efforts, a humanitarian collection event will take place at the Expo Centre in Sharjah on Saturday, October 19th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Organised by The Big Heart Foundation, Sharjah Charity Association, and the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, this event will serve as another key step in the UAE’s humanitarian outreach.
