DUBAI (The Thursday Times) — Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai has launched the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, a grand initiative that aims to celebrate pivotal national occasions across the UAE. Spearheaded by Brand Dubai in collaboration with 16 organisations, the campaign is set to run from 3 November to 2 December, coinciding with both the UAE Flag Day and the 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebrations. This significant campaign seeks to honour the Founding Fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, for their historical role in forming the Union.
Dubai will see a flurry of activities during this month-long celebration, from cultural showcases to public performances and educational workshops. The festivities, which highlight the city’s historical achievements and rich heritage, will unfold at numerous iconic locations. Among these are the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and the Al Shindagha Museum, where residents and visitors alike will be invited to experience both traditional and modern elements of Emirati culture. Sheikh Ahmed has emphasised that the celebrations should reflect the spirit of unity, pride, and national identity, with all participating entities contributing to a shared sense of belonging.
The role of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is playing a central role in this initiative by hosting events at prominent cultural destinations such as the Hatta Heritage Village. These events will take participants on a journey through the UAE’s past, exploring the traditions and values that have shaped the nation’s identity. At the Etihad Museum, visitors can delve into the history of the UAE’s Union, with exhibitions and displays focusing on the country’s formation and the leadership of its founding fathers.
Moreover, Expo City Dubai will host concerts featuring national songs, while cultural performances and traditional Emirati décor will light up the Al Wasl Plaza. These events aim to foster a deeper understanding of the UAE’s development and its leaders’ vision for the future.
Public-private cooperation key to success
A notable feature of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign is the involvement of businesses from Brand Dubai’s ‘Proudly from Dubai’ network, which will incorporate the campaign’s themes into their products. This collaboration exemplifies the campaign’s broad appeal and the strong public-private cooperation driving the celebrations.
The 11th edition of the UAE Flag Garden will also take place, honouring the UAE flag and symbolising national pride. This event will be a key highlight, showcasing the importance of the flag as a symbol of the nation’s unity and strength.
Special events across iconic locations
Dubai’s landmarks, such as the Dubai Frame, will be illuminated to reflect the national spirit, while special community events in places like Hatta will create a festive atmosphere. Dubai Municipality is also heavily involved, with plans for educational workshops and children’s activities to engage the younger generation in the celebrations.
Other notable events include traditional performances at Dubai Airports, themed celebrations at various malls, and a grand parade at City Walk. These activities will not only celebrate Emirati heritage but will also engage residents and tourists alike, ensuring the festivities resonate with a wide audience.
This year’s Eid Al Etihad celebrations will be further enhanced by spectacular fireworks displays across multiple locations in Dubai, including JBR Beach and Dubai Festival City Mall. The celebrations will also extend to educational institutions, with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority launching a campaign to promote national identity among students. These initiatives will help to ensure that the next generation understands and values the legacy of the Founding Fathers.
The #ZayedAndRashid campaign will unite diverse aspects of Dubai’s cultural, social, and educational life, all while honouring the leaders who laid the foundations for the UAE’s success. Sheikh Ahmed’s vision for the celebrations is clear: to create an atmosphere that embodies the values of unity and pride, and to ensure that everyone can partake in these historic national festivities.
