TLDR:

  • RTA upgrades aim for 80% traffic cut

  • New roads ease access to key areas

  • Project benefits over 400,000 residents

DUBAI (The Thursday Times) — Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is moving forward with a sweeping project to reduce congestion by enhancing entry and exit points in four major neighbourhoods. This ambitious initiative, designed to increase capacity by up to 80%, is expected to transform the flow of traffic for residents and visitors across Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. Positioned along key routes such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, and Hessa Street, these improvements are poised to ease daily commutes and unlock faster access across Dubai.

The RTA’s project encompasses several vital infrastructure upgrades, with new roads and expanded lanes to ensure smooth transit. One highlight of the plan is the 7.5 km road connecting Al Awir 1 to Emirates Road, effectively doubling capacity for this community of over 50,000 residents. Meanwhile, expansions along Hessa Street aim to boost traffic flow to Al Barsha South, accommodating up to 9,000 vehicles per hour, ensuring residents can bypass previous bottlenecks.

With enhanced road networks in place, the RTA project is designed to benefit more than 400,000 residents across Dubai. In Wadi Al Safa 3, the new 4 km internal roads are expected to streamline access, cutting travel time dramatically and reducing travel distances within the area. Al Warqa residents will also see the benefits, with an 8 km road network aimed at trimming travel times from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road down to just 3.5 minutes.

Director-General of RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, highlighted that the upgrades would support smoother commutes, providing residents with a stress-free travel experience. For the busy Al Barsha South area, the Hessa Street expansion will open up new routes, bringing relief to its approximately 75,000 residents by increasing lane capacity and easing congestion.

New standards for Dubai’s urban mobility

This large-scale RTA project is aligned with Dubai’s commitment to progressive urban planning, enhancing accessibility while supporting economic growth. By establishing direct and expanded routes, Dubai’s RTA aims to not only reduce travel times but also create a more interconnected city that can handle the demands of its ever-growing population.
