LAHORE (The Thursday Times) — Chery’s electric vehicle rollout in Pakistan continues with the launch of the Omoda E5, a front-wheel-drive SUV built for performance, connectivity, and comfort. Introduced through the Chery–NextGen Auto alliance, the E5 marks another step in the expansion of Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, offering a practical blend of range, technology, and design for urban and intercity drivers alike.
The E5 arrives alongside the Jaecoo J7 under the umbrella of Chery’s partnership with NextGen Auto, a subsidiary of the Nishat Group and the local assembler of Hyundai vehicles. This alignment positions Chery to scale local assembly of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), leveraging existing infrastructure and a growing customer base.
The Omoda E5 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 150 kW (204 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. It draws energy from a 61 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, offering up to 430 km of range under the WLTP cycle and up to 505 km on the NEDC cycle. Drive modes include Eco, Normal, and Sport, making it suitable for both efficiency-focused and performance-oriented users.
Charging is facilitated via a front grille port, and while exact AC/DC charging times are not specified, the SUV supports fast charging compatible with modern infrastructure.
Exterior highlights include LED daytime running lights, sequential rear indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive front fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding heated mirrors, and dual spoilers. A sunroof with a retractable shade is also standard.
Inside, the cabin boasts dual 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and multimedia, supported by a Sony 8-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, intelligent voice commands, and wireless device charging. Both front seats are ventilated, with the driver seat offering 6-way power adjustment and the front passenger 4-way.
The rear seats split 60:40, and additional comfort features include multicolour ambient lighting, rear air vents, dual-zone climate control with a 5-layer filter, and numerous storage compartments. USB Type A and C ports are available for both front and rear passengers.
The E5 is also equipped with a wide range of active and passive safety technologies, including ABS, EBD, ESP, brake assist, multi-collision braking, six airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Parking is made easier with front and rear sensors, a reverse camera, and a 360-degree around-view monitor.
In terms of access and security, the SUV supports proximity keys, remote window controls, passive entry and start, auto-locking on walkaway, and an immobiliser system.
The Omoda E5 is priced at Rs 8,990,000 (ex-showroom) with bookings open at Rs 1,700,000 and an expected delivery window of around 2.5 months.
