Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar shared the statement, emphasising Pakistan’s commitment to upholding human rights and its robust legal framework.

Pakistan defends legal framework

In response to questions regarding the legality of recent military court verdicts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Pakistan’s legal system is consistent with international human rights law, including provisions under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The verdicts were delivered in accordance with laws enacted by Pakistan’s Parliament and endorsed by the Supreme Court.

Ishaq Dar, while sharing the MOFA statement, reiterated that Pakistan’s legal framework ensures judicial review by superior courts, which upholds transparency and accountability. He further emphasised the promotion of justice and fundamental freedoms as essential pillars of Pakistan’s governance.
