Pakistan downs four Taliban drones over Balochistan

ISPR says Pakistan's air defence network intercepted four drones launched from Afghanistan as Islamabad warns against further cross-border provocations.

RAWALPINDI (The Thursday Times) — Pakistan’s Armed Forces have successfully intercepted and destroyed four drones launched by the Afghan Taliban across the border into Balochistan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), thwarting what it described as another hostile attempt to undermine Pakistan’s security.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ISPR said the Afghan Taliban regime launched four rudimentary drones on 30 June as part of its continued patronage and support of terrorist outfits operating from territories under its control.

The statement said Pakistan’s robust air defence network immediately detected the incoming aerial platforms, allowing security forces to neutralise all four drones using sophisticated countermeasures before they could cause any damage.

The military said the successful interception demonstrated the high operational readiness of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and the effectiveness of the country’s integrated air defence capabilities.

According to the ISPR, the latest provocation reflects the Afghan Taliban’s continued support for terrorist organisations targeting Pakistan while attempting to divert attention from the worsening conditions faced by the Afghan people under Taliban rule.

The military stated that such actions are intended to mislead the Afghan population rather than address the challenges confronting the country.

The ISPR urged the Afghan Taliban to abandon its sponsorship of terrorism and instead adhere to the principles of peaceful coexistence with neighbouring states.

Pakistan also issued a stern warning that any future provocations would carry serious consequences.

“If the Afghan Taliban continue to provoke Pakistan, they will receive a befitting response which will cost them heavily,” the statement said.

Reaffirming the country’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, the ISPR said Pakistan’s Armed Forces remain fully vigilant and capable of defending every inch of the homeland against external threats.

It added that any future misadventures or cross-border provocations would continue to be met with swift, decisive and overwhelming responses under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq.

The latest incident underscores Pakistan’s resolve to counter all threats to its national security while maintaining a state of readiness along its western frontier.
