RAWALPINDI (The Thursday Times) — Pakistan’s military courts have sentenced 60 more individuals for their involvement in the May 9 attacks, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The convictions are part of a broader effort to address the unrest and ensure accountability.

Among the convicted is Hassaan Khan Niazi, who has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in the attack on Jinnah House. His sentencing underscores the gravity of the charges and the state’s commitment to upholding law and order.

Other sentences include Mian Ibad Farooq receiving two years of rigorous imprisonment, while Raees Ahmed and Arzam Junaid were each handed six years of rigorous imprisonment. Ali Raza, another individual implicated in the attack, was also sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment.

The May 9 attacks, particularly the assault on the historic Jinnah House, sparked nationwide concern, prompting swift legal action. ISPR highlighted that these convictions were delivered following thorough legal proceedings conducted under the framework of Pakistan’s judiciary and military courts. The sentences aim to reinforce public trust in the nation’s legal institutions and deter future acts of violence.

This wave of sentencing comes as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to address the fallout from May 9, which marked one of the most significant challenges to law and order in recent times. The military courts’ actions demonstrate a resolute stance on preserving stability and delivering justice for acts of public and institutional harm.
