Saudi Defence Minister Meets Asim Munir in Riyadh as World Defence Show Highlights Growing Defence Alignment

A key Riyadh meeting during the World Defence Show signals Pakistan–Saudi defence coordination is tightening.

RIYADH (The Thursday Times) — Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at his office in Riyadh on Thursday, in a visit that carried added weight as the World Defence Show is being held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, this week.

In a post on social media, the Saudi defence minister said the meeting reaffirmed strong relations and a strategic defence partnership between the two countries. He added that the talks covered joint efforts to promote global peace and security in a manner aligned with shared interests.

Photographs released with the post showed the two leaders in formal talks, with the Saudi and Pakistani flags displayed, underscoring the official character of the engagement.

Field Marshal Munir’s presence in Riyadh during the defence exhibition is being viewed as significant by observers, with the World Defence Show serving as a major venue for defence diplomacy, procurement discussions and military-to-military engagement.

The meeting also took up a range of issues of mutual interest, according to the minister’s post.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained close defence ties for decades, including coordination on security matters and institutional engagement between their armed forces. The Riyadh meeting comes as both countries continue to frame defence cooperation as a central pillar of their bilateral relationship.
