ISLAMABAD (THE THRUSDAY TIMES) — Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, declared that Pakistan had been “raised in victory by God” during its recent confrontation with India, as the country hosted a high profile ceremony awarding Jordan’s King Abdullah II the nation’s highest civil honour.

The event, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, marked the conferral of the Nishan-i-Pakistan on the Jordanian monarch. President Asif Ali Zardari led the proceedings, which included an official luncheon in honour of the visiting head of state. Field Marshal Munir attended the ceremony alongside senior political and military officials.
Speaking informally on the sidelines, Field Marshal Munir invoked religious symbolism while reflecting on Pakistan’s military stance. He referenced the Battle of Uhud, saying that when Muslims placed their trust in God, even a handful of dust thrown at the enemy could take the form of a missile. He added that he carried out his duties in accordance with divine instruction.
The army chief reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace but would respond firmly to any conflict imposed upon it, saying the country had already demonstrated its resolve in May. His remarks reflect Islamabad’s ongoing framing of recent escalations with New Delhi as a moral and strategic triumph.
During the ceremony honouring King Abdullah II, Field Marshal Munir expressed gratitude for what he described as God-given success, emphasising that the country’s achievements and resilience were rooted in faith. The event was presented by the government as both a diplomatic milestone and a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s military confidence in the face of regional tensions.
