Bondi Beach attackers were father and son aged 50 and 24

A father and son aged 50 and 24 were responsible for the Bondi Beach attack, which resulted in multiple deaths and injuries and has shaken Sydney as investigations continue.

SYDNEY (The Thursday Times) — Police have confirmed that the attackers involved in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting were a father and his son, aged 50 and 24, respectively, as investigators continue to piece together the events surrounding one of Australia’s deadliest recent attacks.

The incident unfolded on Sunday evening at the popular beachfront location, where large crowds had gathered. Authorities said the two men opened fire before police intervened at the scene.

One of the attackers, the 50-year-old father, was shot dead by officers at the scene, police said. His son, identified as 24-year-old, sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard, where he remains in a serious condition.

At least 15 people were killed in the attack, with victims ranging in age from 10 to 87. Fourteen people died at the scene, while dozens more were injured. Police said a further 42 people, including four children, were taken to hospitals across Sydney. A 10-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man later died from their injuries.

Investigators said the father had held a firearms licence for approximately 10 years. Six licensed weapons were recovered from the scene and during subsequent searches at properties in the Sydney suburbs of Bonnyrigg and Campsie.
