Saudi Arabia awards King Abdulaziz Medal to Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir

A royal order from King Salman honours Pakistan’s top general Field Marshal Asim Munir as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan deepen defence coordination.

RIYADH (The Thursday Times) — Saudi Arabia’s defence minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, on Sunday presented Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, with the King Abdulaziz Medal of the Excellent Class, Saudi state media reported.

The award was granted by order of King Salman, with the Saudi Press Agency describing it as recognition of Munir’s “distinguished efforts” to strengthen strategic relations and cooperation between Riyadh and Islamabad.

Syed Asim Munir received the medal during a meeting with Prince Khalid in Riyadh, where the two sides reviewed long-standing Saudi Pakistani relations and the state of defence cooperation, according to the Saudi account.

Saudi state media said the talks also covered efforts to support international peace and security, language that often signals coordination on regional stability as both countries maintain close military and diplomatic links.

The ceremony, framed by Saudi officials as both a personal honour and a diplomatic signal, underscored the durability of a partnership that spans defence ties, security coordination and political engagement across the Gulf and South Asia.
