Pakistan security forces take control of 32 sq km Afghan territory in Zhob, Ghudwana Enclave: security sources

Pakistan security forces have taken control of the 32 sq km Afghan Ghudwana Enclave in Zhob, following alleged Afghan Taliban raids and unprovoked firing on Pakistani positions, security sources.

ZHOB (The Thursday Times) — Pakistani security forces have taken control of a 32 square kilometre Afghan area described as the “Ghudwana Enclave” in the Zhob sector, according to security sources.

The development followed what the sources described as Afghan Taliban raids on Pakistani positions and unprovoked firing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, prompting Pakistan to launch a hard, decisive and “unusual” response. The sources said the exchange ended with Afghan fire being silenced and multiple border points sustaining damage.

After the operation, the sources said Pakistani forces advanced in the area and secured control of the Ghudwana Enclave, while the border belt was placed on high alert.

The sources said Pakistan’s position remained that any cross-border aggression, firing or attempted infiltration would be met with an immediate and effective response, and that there would be no compromise on the protection of Pakistani positions.
