— Syed Amjad Shah of the Independent Group has won the presidency of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2026-27 by a big margin, defeating Sardar Aman Khan of the Professional Group, Business Recorder reported.

The result gives the Independent Group, widely known as the Asma Jahangir Group and linked with senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon, another term at the head of the country’s leading body of Supreme Court lawyers. The group has frequently won the presidency since around 2010, and its candidate Haroon-ur-Rashid won the previous election for the 2025-26 term.

Voting took place on Thursday at 13 polling stations across the country, including Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Hyderabad. The SCBA has 4,391 registered voters, the largest number of them, 1,460, in Lahore.

For the post of secretary, Mian Irfan Akram of the Professional Group faced Muhammad Arif Awan of the Independent Group.
