PEMRA has banned all media coverage of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Party, citing its embroilment in controversy across the nation. This comes after its declaration by the government as an organisation “engaged in the act of terrorism, acting in a manner prejudicidal to the peace and security of the country.”

All satellite television channels as well as FM radio stations received a copy of the memo on April 15th, sent out with reference to the Ministry of Interior, noting particularly that PEMRA’s code of conduct states that “all programmes shall conform to the laws of the country,” additionally noting in a separate clause that PEMRA “prohibits media coverage to proscribed organsations.”

“Therefore, while exercising powers conferred … media coverage of Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan is banned … [all media must] restrain from providing any kind of media coverage to this organisation.”
