DUBAI (The Thursday Times) — As one of the UAE’s top multicultural family destinations, Global Village is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated Season 29 on October 16, featuring exciting new attractions and upgrades. With a range of new dining experiences, enhanced cultural pavilions, and picturesque settings perfect for social media, this season promises vibrant surprises for families, food lovers, shoppers, and cultural enthusiasts alike.

Culinary delights at the new Restaurant Plaza

Food lovers will be thrilled to discover the brand-new Restaurant Plaza, which is set to be the culinary highlight of Season 29. Located adjacent to the Carnaval fun fair, this dining destination boasts 11 two-storey restaurants, each offering panoramic views of Global Village. Whether you’re indulging in international cuisine or soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, Restaurant Plaza is set to become a favorite spot for guests to dine and unwind.

Cultural immersion with 30 pavilions

For culture enthusiasts, Global Village has expanded its offering to include three new cultural pavilions, bringing the total number to 30 pavilions. These pavilions celebrate the rich heritage and traditions of more than 90 countries, allowing visitors to explore authentic crafts, exotic foods, and cultural performances from around the globe. Each pavilion provides a unique opportunity to engage with the traditions and artistry of different nations.

Popular markets, revamped

Several iconic areas within Global Village have received major transformations, adding fresh designs and vibrant atmospheres:

  • Railway Market: This popular spot has been reimagined with stunning panoramic views and beautifully curated spaces. It offers a sensory experience with sights, sounds, and smells from global markets, perfect for visitors looking to immerse themselves in a diverse shopping environment.
  • Floating Market: With its serene, water-side views, the newly revamped Floating Market provides an ideal setting to explore local goods from various cultures. Its picturesque backdrop is perfect for those looking to capture memorable photos while enjoying the ambiance.
  • Fiesta Street: Fiesta Street has been enhanced with double-story street kiosks, offering a wider range of dining options. Each kiosk reflects the colors and flavors of its home country, providing visitors with a more immersive culinary experience.

Green promenades galore

One of the most exciting additions to Season 29 is the introduction of spacious green promenades throughout the destination. These lush, green pathways create a tranquil atmosphere where families and friends can relax, unwind, and soak in the lively surroundings of Global Village. The promenades provide a peaceful retreat within the vibrant setting, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The origins of Global Village

Global Village began in 1997 as a small initiative along the Dubai Creek to bring together cultures from across the world in one place. Originally envisioned as a space where countries could showcase their traditions, crafts, and cuisine, it has since grown into one of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks. The early iterations of Global Village consisted of just a few kiosks representing different countries, but its immense popularity with both residents and tourists drove rapid expansion.

By 2005, Global Village had outgrown its original location and was relocated to its current home in Dubai Land, where it now occupies a sprawling space of more than 1.6 million square meters. The concept behind Global Village is rooted in the UAE’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and fostering a sense of global unity. It brings together different nationalities, allowing visitors to experience a microcosm of the world through food, entertainment, and cultural showcases.
