DUBAI (The Thursday Times) — Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s First Deputy Ruler, has introduced the Judges’ Career Paths project, aiming to elevate judicial standards and enhance the efficiency of Dubai’s judiciary. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision for a modern, specialised judicial system that supports the rule of law and Dubai’s stature as a global centre for justice and business. The project includes three specialised career tracks for judges: Specialised, Elite, and Leadership, focusing on developing expertise and advanced skills in Dubai Courts.
The Judicial Inspection Authority also launched a digital platform, providing interactive tools for judicial personnel to monitor performance, track case resolution speeds, and access personal indicators, advancing a transparent and responsive judicial environment. This platform aligns with Dubai’s commitment to using technology for judicial excellence, reinforcing public trust in the judiciary.
Sheikh Maktoum’s initiative aligns with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s broader strategy for judicial advancement, emphasising the importance of Emirati expertise in creating a robust, future-ready judicial landscape. The project promotes Emirati judges through tailored training programmes, setting the stage for a new generation of local legal professionals who uphold international standards and enhance Dubai’s judicial integrity.
The Dubai Judicial Institute has inducted 36 Emirati judicial trainees for its Judicial and Legal Studies programme, preparing them for roles within Dubai’s courts. The Judges’ Career Paths project will help these trainees specialise early, building skills for efficiency and precision in legal proceedings, and enabling Dubai Courts to keep pace with the evolving legal environment outlined by the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and Social Agenda 33.
Focus on specialisation
The project’s three-track system supports a structured pathway for judicial professionals. The Specialised Track enables judges to focus on specific legal fields from the outset, ensuring refined skills in their chosen area. The Elite Track, designed exclusively for Emirati judges, cultivates highly skilled individuals who can serve as expert resources in their fields, enhancing legal specialisation. The Leadership Track trains judges for administrative roles, supporting a seamless transition to leadership within Dubai’s judiciary, with a strong focus on managerial and legal expertise.
The Judicial Coordination Affairs Council oversees the Judges’ Career Paths project, ensuring that all training and leadership initiatives align with Dubai’s long-term vision for a dynamic, effective judiciary. Dubai Courts’ comprehensive training efforts, led by Director General Prof. Saif Ghanem Al Suwaidi, strengthen the judicial selection process, which upholds rigorous standards to promote a professional and impartial judicial system.
By establishing a digital platform for the Judicial Inspection Authority, Dubai has taken significant steps toward integrating technology into its legal infrastructure, supporting judicial transparency and public trust. The Judicial Council also confirmed recommendations on promotions, aiming to establish an efficient, competency-based system for recognising judicial talent.
The career development framework offers Emirati judges the opportunity to become leaders and specialists within their roles, ultimately positioning Dubai as a model for legal excellence on the global stage. This ambitious project underscores Dubai’s commitment to creating a legal environment that meets international best practices, reinforcing its status as a secure and advanced legal hub.
