ISLAMABAD (The Thursday Times) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan has received a response from Iran, adding that Field Marshal Asim Munir informed him of the development as Islamabad continues its efforts to support peace between the United States and Iran.
The statement places Pakistan at the centre of a delicate diplomatic track at a time when regional tensions remain high and international attention is focused on whether Washington and Tehran can move towards a negotiated settlement.

Iranian state-linked reporting has also confirmed that Tehran sent its response to the US proposal through Pakistani mediation. Mehr News Agency reported that Shehbaz confirmed Pakistan had received Iran’s response, and said the reply was connected to efforts to end the war in the region. The report added that Tehran’s response focused on ending the war and maritime security, two issues that have become central to the crisis around the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistan has presented its role as one of responsible mediation, seeking to encourage dialogue, reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from widening. The receipt of Iran’s response suggests that Islamabad’s diplomatic channel remains active, though it does not yet amount to a final breakthrough.
The development also highlights the increasingly visible role of Pakistan’s civil and military leadership in regional diplomacy. For Islamabad, the moment carries both opportunity and risk: success could strengthen Pakistan’s standing as a peace broker, while failure would expose the limits of mediation in one of the world’s most volatile conflicts.
