— Pakistani security forces shot down five drones launched by Indian-sponsored terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan at a security checkpoint in Balochistan’s Kharan district on Friday, foiling the attack before the drones reached their target, security sources said.

The terrorists tried to strike a security check-post in the Albat area of Kharan, but the security forces responded promptly and destroyed all five drones, the sources said, according to Geo News. No casualties were reported.

Second drone attempt in weeks

Last month, Pakistan’s air defence system shot down eight drones that entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan, security sources said at the time. The air defence network along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, operated by the Pakistan Air Force, remains fully operational round the clock, they said.

Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop its territory being used by terrorist groups to attack Pakistan, and launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February 2026. Kabul disputes Pakistan’s position.
