— Hub Power Company plans to start building BYD vehicles in Pakistan in December, with the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid as the first locally assembled model, its management told an analyst briefing on Tuesday.

Management expects growth to pick up once local assembly begins, the brokerage Arif Habib Limited said in a report on the briefing. The company is also looking at other models, particularly in the higher-volume B and C segments.

BYD sales in Pakistan have passed 10,000 units in total, the report said. The electric vehicle business made a profit of about Rs1.5 billion in the first quarter of the financial year, of which Hubco’s share was Rs780 million.

The plant near Karachi is a partnership between BYD and Mega Motor Company, an associate of Hubco. It will initially be able to make 25,000 vehicles a year on a double shift, and can be expanded to 50,000.

BYD entered Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market in March 2024.
