GAZA CITY—In the wake of escalating violence between Israel and Palestinian militant groups, Israeli forces have retaliated with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. This retaliatory action comes on the heels of a massive rocket assault launched from Gaza, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that has gripped the region.
On the morning of October 7, 2023, Palestinian militants unleashed a barrage of more than 2,200 rockets towards Israeli territories, claiming the lives of at least 22 Israelis and leaving hundreds wounded. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, declared that Israel is at war following the intense rocket fire from Gaza.
Responding to Palestinian militants, the Israeli military has executed air strikes targeting various sites within the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes, carried out on October 8, 2023, resulted in the unfortunate deaths of at least 198 individuals, with over 1,000 others sustaining injuries, as per reports from Palestinian officials. The Israeli army has affirmed that these measures are a ‘direct response’ to prior attacks from Gaza, aimed at neutralising the threat and preventing further rocket fire.
