Barcelona complain to UEFA over PSG fans’ ‘chainsaw massacre’ banner

The tifo showed a masked man in a PSG shirt sawing through Barcelona’s crest before the holders’ 4-2 win, a night that also cost them Kvaratskhelia for the season.

— Barcelona have complained to UEFA about a giant banner unveiled by Paris Saint-Germain fans before Tuesday’s Champions League match, which showed a masked man in a PSG shirt carving through the Barcelona crest with a chainsaw under the slogan “Massacre, Parisian style”.

The tifo covered a whole stand at the Parc des Princes before kick-off, with pyrotechnics set off at the base of the crest to give the effect of sparks flying from the blade. Sources close to Barcelona said the club had reported the banner, along with some offensive chants from the stands, to UEFA’s match delegate. UEFA declined to comment.

PSG win a six-goal thriller

On the pitch, the holders won 4-2. Barcelona twice came from a goal down and were level at 2-2 with 11 minutes left, before late goals from Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz settled it for PSG. The result keeps PSG top of the league phase with three wins from three as they chase a third straight European title.

A costly night for the champions

The win came at a heavy price. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia twisted his right knee shortly before the hour and was helped off unable to put weight on it. PSG have confirmed the Georgian forward needs knee surgery, which is likely to end his season. The 25-year-old, who scored 10 goals and made six assists last season, is on the shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Ousmane Dembélé, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, limped off with a thigh injury in the 19th minute, and Marquinhos also came off with a similar problem.∎
