PTI president Imran Khan has admitted to extorting funds collected by his Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust project into a private construction project of which he “could not remember the name of.” This comes in light of a defamation case the former prime minister filed against incumbent defence minister Khawaja Asif for the sum of 10 billion rupees.
Senior counsel for Asif, Barrister Haider Rasool, argued that the matter could not be settled in spite of Shaukat Khanum board members returning US$3 million due to the fact that the conversion rate of USD to PKR at the time had been 60 rupees for a dollar, but had doubled to 120 rupees for such by the time the investment had matured.
The defamation suit has been ongoing for more than eleven years.
