— West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after a disappointing start to their Championship season, with the club eighth in the table and six points behind leaders Middlesbrough.

The 52-year-old took charge in September 2025 and oversaw the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season. West Ham were widely seen as favourites for automatic promotion, but have won only two of their last six games and lost their last two at home, 3-2 to Southampton and 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left.

“Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club’s objectives and expectations remain on track,” the club said.

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge for Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City.
