NEW YORK (The Thursday Times) — Grand Theft Auto VI will take up as much as 212GB of console storage, Rockstar Games confirmed on Tuesday, and players can start downloading it in advance on November 10, nine days before release.
Rockstar said the pre-load file will need up to 212GB “depending on your device”, and told players to make sure they have enough space ready. PlayStation 5 owners can begin at midnight in their own time zone on November 10. Xbox Series X and S owners can start at midnight GMT, which is 5am in Pakistan.
The game launches on November 19 at $79.99, and it is digital only. Boxed copies will contain just a download code, so everyone will have to fetch the full file over the internet.
That is a serious job in much of Pakistan. At 20 megabits per second, a 212GB file takes about 24 hours of nonstop downloading, and it needs far more on a slower line or a shared connection. It would also fill more than a quarter of the 825GB drive in the original PlayStation 5, and over 40% of the 512GB drive in the Xbox Series S.
The pre-load gives players with slow connections a head start, and players who want it on day one have nine days to finish the job. The game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
