Lahore (The Thursday Times) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that public transport will be made free across the province.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major decision to make public transport free in all cities of the province. Under the decision, citizens will not have to buy a ticket to travel on the Orange Line train, the Metro Bus service, the Speedo Bus and the Green Electro Bus.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also decided to provide cash payments for the protection of agriculture, food and farmers. She has also announced a subsidy of 100 rupees per litre on diesel per acre for farmers.

The Chief Minister of Punjab has appealed to the public to use public transport rather than private vehicles in the present circumstances. She said that the people would not be left alone in difficult times, and urged citizens to give preference to public transport over private vehicles in these extraordinary circumstances.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif further said that, as a result of the war, the world is in the grip of a global economic crisis, while Pakistan is being affected more by the war because of its dependence on imported oil. She pledged, however, that as soon as conditions improve, the people would be relieved of the economic burden.
