— Customers pulled more than $3.6 billion out of Binance as the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange reopened on Sunday after last week’s record hack, which hit $6.3 billion in digital assets.

Binance said on X that there had been an “initial spike” in withdrawals, which then fell and “are stabilising as expected”. Withdrawals of major tokens such as bitcoin and ether have resumed, and it said other services will return in phases once security checks are finished.

The company said it has now covered about 95 per cent of the stolen assets, up from the more than 90 per cent it reported earlier. It said the rest may take longer to source, and it has repeatedly promised to cover all of the losses.

The FBI has blamed North Korea for the attack, the largest crypto theft on record. Binance suspended all transactions after the breach, which was discovered on Thursday, and said it had frozen about $3 billion of the stolen assets with the help of law enforcement and partners.
